Obituary for George Bernal Clark

George Bernal Clark
George Bernal Clark (97) passed away August 29, 2019 at his home in Houlton with his loved ones present. A lifelong resident of Oakfield and Smyrna Mills, he was born in Oakfield, the second son of John and Olive Clark.

He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia, three children; son John and his wife Teran, son Bryce and his wife Bonnie, daughter Cheryl and her husband Kevin Locke, stepdaughter Barbara and her husband Tom Taber. Granddaughter Kara and her husband John Hartshorne and their children Simon and Annabelle, grandson Evan and his wife Elisabeth Clark and their son Aaron, granddaughter Brandy and her husband Rob Goulet and their children Aaron, Michel, and Della, Grandson Jarrad Clark and his sons Grady and Beau , grandson Taylor Locke and his fiancé Jacqui Cormier, grandson Patrick Taber and his wife Brittany and daughter Camden, grandson Tim Cassidy Jr. and granddaughter Trish Cassidy.

He was predeceased by his first wife Della Lilley Clark, his parents, brother Charles and sister Lois and stepson Tim Cassidy Sr.

He was veteran of WWII serving from 1942 until 1946 in the European theater, landed at Normandy and made his way into Germany. He came home to Oakfield and after 36 years retired in 1984 as yardmaster from the Bangor and Aroostook railroad. After the war, Dad was a significant part of the great Oakfield baseball teams of 1946 to 1952, which year after year won the Aroostook county league championships. Dad was one of 5 Clarks on those teams, one of their better pitchers, and third baseman and the last surviving member of those teams.

He enjoyed many hobbies, he was a carpenter, and jack of all trades. Growing up as his children we never worried about breaking our toys as Dad could always fix them. He down hilled, cross country skied, and played golf. In retirement Patricia and he toured the USA and Canada and wintered in Florida. During the last 2.5 years he worked in his shop building furniture to give away to family and friends.

He was a wonderful husband, Dad, grandfather and great grandfather. As a family we have been truly blessed and have an ocean of great memories. When dad would do a favor for someone and they wanted to thank him he would say “no need to thank me just pass it on and do something for someone else.”

We ask that family and friends join us for graveside services at the Smyrna Mills cemetery at 2:00 pm Monday September 2nd with Deacon Danny Watson presiding. After the service please join us at the Oakfield snow mobile club for reminiscing and telling stories about Dad and giving Patricia hugs.

In lieu of flowers feel free to give donations to your charity of choice in George’s name. Services by Bowers Funeral Home.
